From concerns to confidence: How dtect transformed data quality for two research firms

Data quality isn’t just a technical detail—it’s a requirement for making informed business decisions and the foundation of business success. We recently spoke with two seasoned research professionals who shared their experiences implementing dtect. Their stories reveal how addressing fraud and quality issues up front transforms both operations and client relationships.

The QuantifyAI story: Building quality from day one

QuantifyAI, founded by Adam Stephenson, is a relatively new player in the market research field, having launched operations in April 2023. As a self-funded startup, it faced the challenge of establishing itself in the industry while delivering quality results. With limited resources but a need for robust security measures, it required a solution that could protect its reputation and provide quality without a massive investment.

Quality challenges before dtect

When QuantifyAI first launched, it struggled with significant quality issues. Without proper security checks, it experienced high reconciliation rates, which threatened its reputation with new clients.

“Before using dtect, our toss rate was about 20%. That is a bad quality sample, and it was not acceptable.”

This reconciliation rate was unsustainable for a new firm to build client relationships. They briefly tried other survey fraud prevention partners but found most were expensive and incompatible with their existing tools.

Implementation experience

QuantifyAI discovered dtect in their search for an affordable, effective solution. After a brief pilot period, they saw significant improvements and decided to incorporate dtect into their standard workflow.

Measurable quality improvements

The impact on QuantifyAI’s data quality was dramatic and immediate. “After we started using dtect, many respondents were blocked before we sent them to the client environment… Right now [our toss rate] is around 9%. Quality problems were down by 50%,” explained Rajesh.

This improvement meant they delivered cleaner data to clients from the start, saving time on reconciliations and preserving their reputation as a new company.

Business impact beyond quality

QuantifyAI actively features dtect in their sales pitches, positioning the platform as a key competitive differentiator. They showcase their implementation of dtect’s fraud prevention technology as evidence of their superior commitment to data quality. This approach has proven effective, with at least one major client adopting dtect after seeing how QuantifyAI leverages the platform to deliver cleaner, more reliable research data.

“Whenever I send an email, the first question that pops up is, ‘Are you guys using dtect for this?'” Rajesh demonstrated how their quality measures have become a key client consideration.

Future outlook

For QuantifyAI, dtect has become more than just a vendor—it’s a crucial business partnership that enables them to compete with established firms despite limited resources. “If we had to develop proprietary technology, especially in terms of security, it would cost millions and require a dedicated team. We don’t have those resources, so dtect is more like a partner to us than a vendor,” explained Rajesh.

As a growing business, they plan to continue leveraging dtect to maintain quality standards while focusing their resources on expansion and client acquisition.

Gazelle Global

The Gazelle Global story: streamlining multi-panel management

Gazelle Global, led by founder Anne Brown, is an established global operations hub for the market research industry. The company focuses on handling the operational aspects of global research projects, allowing research firms to concentrate on analysis and client relationships. It employs various quality checks and technologies, but the pressure to always be asked to “do more with less” poses a unique challenge for ensuring data quality while keeping up with the pace required for project completion. By functioning as an extension of their clients’ teams, Gazelle Global helps market research firms increase profitability without expanding overhead, positioning itself as a strategic partner in an increasingly competitive industry landscape. With a data quality issue to enforce on qualitative and quantitative projects, Gazelle Global needs reliable systems and partners to keep things moving quickly while delivering higher quality outcomes, even for complex multi-country projects.

Quality challenges before dtect

Before implementing dtect, Gazelle Global used other security tools like Relevant ID and Clean ID. However, they struggled with the logistics of managing multiple panels and sources.

“We had ways to [bring panels together], but they were more manual. Only a few people could administer it and make changes.”

This manual process was time-consuming and created bottlenecks since only certain team members could handle these tasks. Additionally, deduplicating participants across different panels was particularly challenging with their existing tools.

Implementation experience

Gazelle Global has been using dtect since its early days and has seen the platform evolve to meet its needs better. While implementing dtect did add an extra step to their process, Scott noted that it wasn’t burdensome. “It’s an extra step, but not a big one. Project people have more on their plates now regarding setup, but it’s not overly large, and they keep adding features to make it more efficient,” Scott explained.
The platform’s continuous improvements have helped streamline Gazelle’s workflow, making the integration increasingly valuable.

Measurable quality improvements

For Gazelle Global, the most significant quality improvement came from specific dtect features rather than the platform as a whole.

“When we added the AI tool that asks open-ended questions, there was a noticeable increase in quality,” Scott mentioned. “That particular piece showed a big quality improvement, especially for open ends.”

While some fraud detection capabilities were similar to their previous tools, the specialized screening made a tangible difference in the quality of responses they collected.

Business impact beyond quality

dtect has improved its professional reputation by reducing rejections later in the process. The platform has become part of their quality control discussions with clients. “When clients ask about our QC processes, the name dtect comes up,” says Scott. Overall, Gazelle Global loves how dtect fits into their broader conversations about quality with clients, showing they are proactive about data quality concerns.

Future outlook

Scott sees the recent dtect API release as potentially game-changing for their workflow. He emphasized that dtect is particularly valuable for firms using simpler survey platforms. “If you’re using something simpler like Survey Monkey or Qualtrics, dtect gives you a much higher level of security. It solves that issue if you don’t have higher-end programming and programmers who know how to implement fraud detection APIs,” he states.

For Gazelle Global, the evolution of dtect continues to align with their needs, especially as they manage complex sample sources going to various destinations.

Different paths, shared benefits

While QuantifyAI and Gazelle Global came to dtect with different needs—one seeking affordable quality control as a new business, the other looking to streamline panel management—both found tangible benefits that improved their operations and client relationships.

Their experiences highlight dtect’s flexibility in addressing various market research challenges, whether you’re a startup building your reputation or an established firm optimizing complex workflows. In both cases, the platform’s ability to prevent quality issues before they enter the data stream has created measurable improvements and strengthened client trust.
